Letter from Ann Souder,
President, Newport Maritime Alliance
Formed to preserve, protect and promote Newport’s working waterfront and maritime heritage, the Newport Maritime Alliance is uniquely positioned to not only take advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead, but also to confront the challenges that face our historic Harbor.
Since being recast from the Maritime Preservation Alliance, the NMA has been working to raise awareness for a myriad of issues affecting the city and its working waterfront.
Those efforts include working to repeal the state sales tax on charter and tour boats; developing strategies for attracting visiting boaters to Newport Harbor and increase the season’s weekday business; issue advocacy through public forums; annual CPR training for Harbor launch drivers; annual Harbor Cruise for our City Council and Legislative representatives; and hosting the winter Industry get togethers at the Clarke Cooke House.
These are exciting times for Newport, the harbor, and the businesses that are built around it. We hope that you’ll make a donation to support our efforts.
Sincerely,
Ann Souder
